Description Ben Konrath CLA 2006-04-03 12:50:41 EDT
I would be nice if the "Assigned To" field was changed to the default for the Product or Component when the Product or Component is changed. Ideally the old email address would be automatically added to the CC field.

The reason for this request is that bugs sometimes get lost because the product or component changes, but the owner of the new product or component doesn't know about the bug because it does not get re-assigned automatically.

Ben, this sounds like something that should be requested at bugzilla.mozilla.org. I'm wondering if there is already an open issue for this.

BTW, this option already exists but you have to select it manually. It's right above the Commit button ("Reassign bug to default assignee and QA contact of selected component").
Comment 3 Gunnar Wagenknecht CLA 2006-04-03 13:40:21 EDT
https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=92549 looks like a good candidate.

Hi Gunnar, thanks for traking down that mozilla bug. I didn't notice the "re-assign bug" button, but I'll keep my eye out for it next time I change a component or product.

Closing this as WONTFIX as it seems to be a bugzilla issue. For information on the Foundation's position re: Bugzilla customization, please read bug 104100 comment 6.

This is an unfortunate decision. A lot of bugs get lost because this feature is missing from bugzilla. I hope you will reconsider fixing this in the future.

I agree with you 100% - coincidentally, I ran into this problem today: bug 138638 comment 2. If more committers request this, then we'll definitely reconsider. As it stands, you and I seem to be alone in thinking this is a problem ;)

Maybe you could leave the bug open so that it's more visable. Just a suggestion.

Sounds reasonable. I'll even vote on it too!

This is apparently no longer an issue in Bugzilla 3.2 -- see https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=414284
Comment 11 Denis Roy CLA 2009-08-31 11:05:01 EDT
Bugzilla 3.4 has been deployed. Marking as fixed.
