Using build 2002-04-09, open f1.txt and f2.txt using the default text editor. 
Notice the status bar will have 3 boxes at the right with Writable, Insert, 
NNN : NNN

Now switch between the two open editors on f1.txt and f2.txt (by clicking on 
the editor tabs). Notice it keeps adding a new box to the right with "Writable" 
in it.
