Description Daniel Le Berre CLA 2006-01-18 17:23:47 EST
When creating a new Jonas 4.X Server, the server does not appear in the project explorer in the Server subtree.

The server appears well in the Server down panel and in the Run on server wizard though.

I am running this same version of WTP on Windows and have also noticed this problem. In addition, I also have downloaded a copy of Geronimo (and its Eclipse plugin) and noticed that it is also missing from the servers node. The Jonas and Geronimo servers are missing when viewing the servers node in the Project explorer, Package Explorer, and Navigator views. The only server that I have defined that does show up in this node is Tomcat. All of the servers I have defined show up correctly in the servers view.

I don't see a Server subtree in the Project Explorer, and it is not supposed to have one in WTP. If you are seeing something there we'll need to transfer the bug to jst.j2ee.

The resource Navigator will only show you resources on disk in your workspace. By default in WTP servers are created in metadata and only server configurations (if they exist will be in the workspace. To move servers to the workspace, right click on them in the Servers view and use the appropriate context menu.

The Package Explorer is normally used for Java projects and for non-Java projects should be equivalent to the Navigator.

Does this info help at all? Is it just the first issue that is a problem or are you seeing anything else?

Note from Daniel earlier today:

> Sorry to reply directly, but bugzilla looks down.
> In J2EE view, the Server subtree does appear in "Other Projects".

For Other Projects, the J2EE view is just showing the project's resource contents, not any kind of filtered content. Therefore, it would show the equivalent to the Navigator view.

Did the two of you expect the server to be created in the workspace by default instead of metadata, or is this just a miscommunication/understanding of what you're looking at in these views and what a basic Server project would contain?
Comment 4 Daniel Le Berre CLA 2006-01-26 04:17:25 EST
Tim,

The server view is needed to change the configuration files for the server (server.xml, tomcat-users.xml and web.xml for tomcat for instance).

This is mandatory for all web programming IMHO.

When using jonas, nothing appears, so there is no way to setup the server.

It would be nice IMHO to move the Server subtree on the same level as Dynamic Web Project, EJB Project, etc.

Duping to bug 156130 since it covers the general request to add server knowledge to the project explorer. Please add any future comments on these requirements to that bug.

This is part of a mass update to close out all stale WTP bugs which are in the resolved state without an appropriate targeted version. If you feel this bug was closed inappropriately, please reopen.
