Description John Kaplan CLA 2005-12-06 11:03:40 EST
Steps:

1 Create a new class (or any type), select 'generate comments' checkbox.
2 Create another new class (or any type).
Expected - your previous checkbox selection was stored as a preference.
Actual - it wasn't, so you have to select it again (and again and again...).

I know I saw a bug on this a few months ago, but it wasn't fixed as of last month and I can't find the bug anymore after several search tries.

This is annoying because you have to keep re-selecting the check box every time you create a new class, or grind your teeth if you forget and the comment template is missing in your new code.

I'd be willing to help out and do the fix if it hasn't been fixed already (and I missed it in the latest integ or something). Just say yea or nay.

The preference is derived from the project or workspace preference
Java - Code Style - 'Automatically add comments for new...'

The problem is that there are other features (e.g. quick fix) which don't have UI, so they need the preference. And storing the setting in the new class wizard again led to the situation where people complained that the unchecked the preferences and we still require them to disable it the wizard.

Ah yes, I see it. It has quirky usability, because this checkbox behaves differently than the others on the same wizard, and you have to dig to get to the actual preference. I'll bet you have to defend this one a fair amount.

Could I suggest another link from the box to the preferences page to save it, similar to the one that's there showing you the template?

BTW - hope things are going well for you guys - I really like using our new feature with the type content templates.
