Description James Synge CLA 2005-11-12 11:31:59 EST
Using Eclipse 3.2 M3, on Windows XP.

Steps:

Selected two files in my workspace.
Right-Click > Compare > To Each Other.
Maximized the Compare editor.
Edited the file on the left of the compare (added a single space).
Ctrl-S.

The file saved, and a moment later the toolbar associated with the Console view
was draw in the middle of the the Compare editor (in its location when the
Compare editor was not maximized).

I reproduced this twice, then tried to make a new project to setup a nice case
for reproduction. I selected New > Java Project, at which point Eclipse crashed
(well, it actually said Saving Workspace, so the actions might have been really
screwed up).

I'll attach a capture of the relevant part of the screen, and the relevant part
of the log file.

I am having the same problem with Eclipse 3.1.1 build M20050929-0840 (Fedora Core release 4 (Stentz)). When I save a maximized editor, my external tool builder runs, and the console toolbar and text area both appear on top of the editor. The text area is fully functional and shows the builder's output. The toolbar and text area do not disappear if I change editors, but they disappear if I switch perspectives or unmaximize and remaximize the editor area. This only happens if the Console view is behind another view (i.e. a different tab is selected) when I maximize the editor.

James, is your case similar to Matt's? Do you have another builder on that project? What kind of files were they that you were comparing?

Comment 8 James Synge CLA 2006-03-27 10:19:01 EST
I was almost certainly comparing Java files. The projects are generally Java plug-in projects. For example, one of these has the following builders:

Component Structural Builder
Java Builder
Plug-in Manifest Builder
Extension Point Schema Builder
Validation
Component Structural Dependency Resolver
Dependency Graph Builder
(ant) copy-server-plugin-xml

I've noticed the same problem with views other than the console, when the toolbar has changed while an editor was maximized, most often the Junit view (where the toolbar changes during/after running the tests).
Comment 9 Paul Webster CLA 2006-04-04 12:54:25 EDT
Tracking these all together.
