Normally a cvs server can be setup to handle content types automatically. Currently eclipse always sends a content type. It would be nice if there was an option to say "If Eclipse does not know about a content type to not send anything and let the server figure it out".
By content type, do you mean keyword substitution mode? CVS gets the mode for the file from the server in the first place so I'm not sure what you are getting at here. Perhaps if you gave a concrete example to illustrate the problem, it would help me understand what you are asking for.
If you add a file to your project and the content type is not listed then eclipse content type will mark the file as binary. If you then commit the file, eclipse will send binary content type to the server. If eclipse sent no content type then the cvs server would be free to pick the content type based on its knowledge of the extension and associated content type. Does that make more sense? Basically this allows you to set your content types at the cvs server and have it figure out if the file is to be treated as binary or ascii.
It wasn't clear from your original description that you were talking about new files. *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of 53235 ***
