Hi there ! I've downloaded and installed your latest Eclipse 3.1 installation (eclipse-SDK- 3.1-win32.zip), unpacked and installed it successfully. I've copied my existing workspace based on Eclipse 3.0 and run a simple project successfully. Happily deleted my older Eclipse (wups). The problem: whilst in the Java Perspective and opening and closing (any) files, Eclipse crashes and I get the error message below. The only way to recover Windows 98 seems to be a full re-start. I have "played around" a bit, trying to make this problem re-producable: 1.) I've created a completely new workspace -> Eclipse comes up with Welcome page -> closing the welcome page crashed Eclipse (only happened once). 2.) After re-start, I've again selected this workspace. This time no problem. I've copied one very simple application from the old workspace over. With this one, the problem seems re-producable (although the steps to crash Eclipse are not always the same). I open various files in any sequence in the editor. It looks like when I close the last one of them Eclipse crashes again. Sometimes it seems not enough to open and then close files again, sometimes I highlight any objects in the files (variables etc.). I do not need to edit any of the files though. 3.) If required, I can zip and send the workspace to you. 4.) I've already attached the workspace specific .log file. The error message I get with the Windows crash is: JVM terminated. Exit code =-1 C:\PROGRAMME\JAVA\JRE1.5.0\BIN\javaw.exe -Xms40m -Xmx256m -jar C:\eclipse\startup.jar -os win32 -ws win32 -arch x86 -launcher C:\eclipse\eclipse.exe -name Eclipse -showsplash 600 -exitdata fff7de09_8 (--> note: different adresses for the various crashes) -vm C:\PROGRAMME\JAVA\JRE1.5.0\BIN\javaw.exe -vmargs -Xms40m -Xmx256m -jar C:\eclipse\startup.jar Is there a patch available or do I need to revert to the old Eclipse 3.0 version ? Cheers Thomas Petermann

I have the same configuration and behaviour. Most of the times, Windows report an invalid operation in USER.EXE.

There should be a crash log from the JVM called something like hs_err_6186.log, I believe it will be located in the directory with the Eclipse executable. Can you attach this log file if possible?
That file was the first thing I looked for. I don't know why, there's not. I only got a popup window with the same message reported by thopeterman.
