Hello, I would suggest for a future release an look enhancement. When no editor is opened, there is an empty space inside the workbench which is not "sexy" ;) The idea is to be able to define an image which would be displayed instead of this blank space in order to have a better look in fine... For instance by default the slash form ... regards Xavier
Not sure what you mean by "slash form". The sash form? That would just be blank too. Maybe you could attach a screen shot or mockup showing what you're thinking of?

I've put attached two gifs for describing what could it be... 1) empty editor is replaced by defaut by the splash bmp 2) empty editor is replaced by default by the overview which available when launching the tool... regards Xavier
We could do something similar to what we did for the background shown when no workbench pages are open (see WorkbenchWindowAdvisor.createEmptyWindowContents(Composite)). To show intro contents, there would have to be extra API for creating the intro component under a given composite.
I'd rather the area just go away, see bug 117836 comment #2.
Reassigning bugs in component areas that are changing ownership.
Closing bug as stale. RCP apps have access to Welcome which can provide an introductory experience similar to those shown in the screen shots (but not in an editor area).
