Description Randy Hudson CLA 2005-05-19 10:54:43 EDT
ALT+LEFT_ARROW should be Prev Word on the Mac. Therefore, ALT+SHIFT+LEFT_ARROW should be
Select Prev Word. But it is Select Previous Element. Element selection should use some other modifier
to respect as many existing platform keybindings as possible.

I tried customizing the keys, but I couldn't find Select Next Element anywhere.

See also bug 95950.

Edit, Select Next Element

>ALT+LEFT_ARROW should be Prev Word on the Mac.
Why?
We contribute:
- for next/prev word: M1+ARROW_RIGHT/LEFT (Ctrl/Command+...)
- for select next/prev word: M1+M2+ARROW_RIGHT/LEFT (Ctrl/Command+Shift+...)

- for next/prev element: M2+M3+ARROW_RIGHT/LEFT (Shift+Alt+...)

Why? The platform text widget on the Mac uses MOD2+ARROW for next/prev word,
not MOD1.

André, can you please comment?
Marking as minor since this can be changed via 'Keys' preference page.

Why are there ~10 select actions under "Text Editing", and 4 more
under "Edit"? I don't see the difference between Next Word and Next Element to
warrant having them under difference categories.

Please see Bug 95950 comment #26. The comment applies more to this bug. Also
note, that this involves JDT UI as well (no bug exists for this yet).

This bug hasn't had any activity in quite some time. Maybe the problem got resolved, was a duplicate of something else, or became less pressing for some reason - or maybe it's still relevant but just hasn't been looked at yet.

If you have further information on the current state of the bug, please add it and remove the stalebug whiteboard tag. The information can be, for example, that the problem still occurs, that you still want the feature, that more information is needed, or that the bug is (for whatever reason) no longer relevant.
