Description Damian Biollo CLA 2005-05-05 12:20:29 EDT
One of the most useful Win32 controls is the extended combo box.
It is like a combo box with 2 additions: each item can have an image and each
item can be indented. I think (not totally sure) that the indenting increases
in increments of half the icon size (it might be a fixed # of pixels).

I can't really see a good cross-platform way to implement this with SWT. The
Combo class just shows strings. On the newsgroup, people have recommend to use
a table as the drop down; however, one critical function (setImageIndent) is
now deprecated, so I'm not sure how to set the indenting. Using a tree as a
the drop area would seem to be inappropriate as trees behave differently from
combo box wrt expand/collapse and selection.

Anyway, it seems like a few people are going to be custom implementing this
control anyway, but I think this belongs in the SWT layer. Is there any chance
we can get an ExtendedCombo class before Eclipse 3.1 is complete?

There is no chance before 3.1. We are API frozen.

See also bug 4510 (requests the same for CCombo).
Comment 3 Remy Suen CLA 2007-08-15 08:56:34 EDT
Any chance that this will be considered for 3.4?

Reopening, this is not a dup and has dependencies.

This bug hasn't had any activity in quite some time. Maybe the problem got
resolved, was a duplicate of something else, or became less pressing for some
reason - or maybe it's still relevant but just hasn't been looked at yet.

If you have further information on the current state of the bug, please add it.
The information can be, for example, that the problem still occurs, that you
still want the feature, that more information is needed, or that the bug is
(for whatever reason) no longer relevant.

If the bug is still relevant, please remove the stalebug whiteboard tag.
