The Add File Assocation workflow does not allow users to set "System Editor" as the app to use to open a particular file type. For example, if you have many .doc files in your workspace, using Open With... > System Editor spawns a WinWord.exe for the first one and all subsequent .doc files are opened using the previously spawned WinWord. If you instead configure a file assocation between .doc and WinWord, each time you open a .doc file, a new WinWord.exe is started. Each seems to take about 30M of memory so it is not long until you run low. Note that simply not choosing an application gives you the Open With... >Default Editor behaviour of opening word in place in Eclipse. Suggest that the list of applications include an entry for System Editor (perhaps placed or highlighted specially) or a radio button along the top.
