The tree on the "Colors and Fonts" prefs page does not expand as the dialog is 
made larger.

On a related note, the Description Text control is much taller than needed.

I have since noticed that the description Text control does grab vert, and that 
the preview also grabs vert, despite the fact that there is rarely a preview 
active.

Probably, the description control can be made to auto-size based on the wrapped 
message.  This is done by disabling grabVert, and setting height to -1 (I'm 
just guessing).  Of course, the issue would be that the page would layout on 
selection change :-(.  Maybe just change it to have a fixed size of two lines.

Another possibility is to toggle preview on/off, and reclaim that space
