Split from bug 85156.
For tighter integration with installers, an extension point or other hook should
be provided to allow plug-in writers to create their own product export options
that would be selectable in the Product Configuration editor. For example it
should be possible for me to write a plug-in that would use Nullsoft or
Installshield or some other installer to create a packaged EXE format.

Perhaps the current zip packaging method be refactored to make use of the same
hooks, both as a demonstration of how it can be done and to level the playing field.

No one has shown any interest in fixing this for several years. Closing as WONTFIX.  Please reopen if you are interested in contributing a fix.
