Description Kim Horne CLA 2004-12-15 14:20:36 EST
200412142000

Unless I'm blind there doesn't seem to be a way to delete a custom perspective
once it's been created.
Comment 1 Kim Horne CLA 2004-12-15 14:24:21 EST
Ok, so I am blind. You can do it from the preference page. This is very
unintuitive...
Comment 2 Nick Edgar CLA 2004-12-15 15:17:50 EST
I have to admit that it is. Where did you look for it first?
Comment 3 Kim Horne CLA 2004-12-15 15:28:48 EST
I looked in the window menu. When I didnt find it there I went to the Open
Perspective dialog and hit delete. When that didn't work I went and asked Tod. :)
Comment 4 Nick Edgar CLA 2004-12-15 15:42:42 EST
So how about:
Window > Delete Perspective...
- prompts for which perspective to delete
  - showing only custom perspectives and explaining why
- allows multi-select
- has OK, Cancel buttons
- OK enabled iff one or more selected
- Cancel always enabled
- on OK,
  - prompts to close any open perspectives that are in the selected list,
allowing cancel
  - deletes selected perspective(s)
Comment 5 Kim Horne CLA 2004-12-15 16:04:45 EST
Either that or a Manage Perspectives action that takes you to the appropriate
page inside the preference dialog...
Comment 6 Nick Edgar CLA 2004-12-16 10:03:07 EST
That might be better, since it gives a path to the other perspective management
settings. CC'ing MVM to see if this jives with the overall prefs story.
Comment 7 Nick Edgar CLA 2004-12-16 10:04:47 EST
Also: the prefs dialog currently checks for open perspectives that are about to
be deleted when OK is pressed, not when Delete is pressed. This can be
confusing, particularly when multiple perspectives have been deleted: if any of
them are open, none are deleted. Should look at addressing this too.

See also bug 40562 and its dup for confusion about the terms used, and some
suggestions.
Comment 9 Nick Edgar CLA 2005-02-18 10:05:39 EST
Deferring.
Comment 10 Nick Edgar CLA 2005-03-22 17:30:41 EST
Deferring again.
Comment 11 Nick Edgar CLA 2005-05-06 12:06:07 EDT
Not for 3.1.
Comment 12 Nick Edgar CLA 2006-03-15 11:46:50 EST
Reassigning bugs in component areas that are changing ownership.
Comment 13 Paul Webster CLA 2006-09-28 15:14:20 EDT
Is this still a problem in 3.3?

Comment 14 Denis Roy CLA 2007-06-22 09:32:45 EDT
Changes requested on bug 193523
Comment 15 Udo Walker CLA 2015-09-25 07:46:11 EDT
This is still not fixed.

I would like to delete my own perspective as when I created it: with the pop-up menu directly in the perspective bar. Just add the delete oparation in the pop-up menu.

This bug hasn't had any activity in quite some time. Maybe the problem got resolved, was a duplicate of something else, or became less pressing for some reason - or maybe it's still relevant but just hasn't been looked at yet.

If you have further information on the current state of the bug, please add it. The information can be, for example, that the problem still occurs, that you still want the feature, that more information is needed, or that the bug is (for whatever reason) no longer relevant.
