Oracle Synonyms are not recognized by the Server Explorer.
Comment 1 Der Ping Chou CLA 2004-12-17 22:09:51 EST
Jeff,

Our SQLModel do contain the attribute for Synonyms. We do encourage
contribution from other contributor or else we will enhance the feature to
support it in the future.

Thanks,

Der Ping

Will fix this in M3 or later milestone.
Comment 3 David Williams CLA 2005-06-23 02:45:26 EDT
Jeff, or Der Ping? Seems likely this could be moved to "fixed"?
Comment 4 Der Ping Chou CLA 2005-06-23 12:34:31 EDT
We encourage public to contribute this feature.
Comment 5 David Williams CLA 2005-07-25 12:19:49 EDT
Der Ping or Jeff, is this still an issue?

If so, I think a better way to resolve it -- instead of "won't fix"
is just as "later" and add "helpwanted" key word.

Comment 6 Jeff Duska CLA 2005-07-25 12:51:37 EDT
It is still a need for anyone working with an Oracle database, because Synonyms
are used so often by Oracle DBA. I can also understand that there is only so
much Eclipse team can do.

I'll leave it is up to Der Ping to add the Help Wanted Keyword. It does sound
like a good idea to me.

Jeff,

I agree with you that synonyms is a important feature for Oracle and database
like DB2 zSeries. Since there are companies use rdb contribution to
support/model Oracle/DB2 zSeries/Synonym. I am quite sure someone would be
interested to contribute this. Following are a list of things which need to
happen:

1) Derived a so call Oracle Model from Database Definition Model and add
Synonym (extend from table) to the model. Same idea can be expanded for Oracle
material view, Oracle package support.
2) Implement Oracle catalog loader and ui (support Oracle driver - this is
optional). The catalog loader would query Oracle DBA_SYNONYMS, ALL_SYNONYMS
and USER_SYNONYMS catalog to retrive synonym.
3) Add a virtual folder in Server Explorer under Schema to hold Synonym, by
means of providing an extension point to the
org.eclipse.wst.common.navigator.views.navigatorContent extension.

Hope this help.

Der Ping

This is part of a mass update to close out all stale WTP bugs which are in the resolved state without an appropriate targeted version. If you feel this bug was closed inappropriately, please reopen.
Comment 9 John Lanuti CLA 2006-11-29 09:02:36 EST
Bugs resolved with "Later" should not have been closed, reopening this bug.
Comment 10 John Lanuti CLA 2006-11-29 09:08:16 EST
Pushing back to the Resolved->Later state.
Comment 11 David Williams CLA 2007-07-19 02:00:58 EDT
re-opening to change resolved-later to open-Future
Comment 12 David Williams CLA 2008-07-23 23:22:24 EDT
I'd like to close this old bug since RDB is no longer actively being worked in WTP. If this issue is still a problem, I suggest it be addressed through the DTP Project.

Thanks,
