If you open a file from the navigator with a different editor than its default, 
that editor now becomes the default editor for the file.

For example, select an XML file in the navigator and choose the Open With menu 
item.
Select the Default Text Editor, and open it. The text editor is now the default 
editor for the file. If you now close the file, reselect it, and choose the 
Open menu item, the text editor will open instead of the XML editor.

There is already a mechanism in the Preferences dialog to change the default 
editor for a file. This is the only mechanism that should be used to change the 
default.
