at various points during development I seem to get in states where the Target
Platform prefs page reports that various plugins in my target are "out of
sync". Everytime this happens I end up pinging Wassim to find out what that
means and how to fix it. while I'm sure he enjoys the interaction, not
everyone is fortunate enough to have a Wassim.

The difficulty here is that out of sync does not help. Out of sync with what?
what is out of sync? how do I fix it? I tried "Reload" and that seemed to
address the out of sync problem but it reset all my check marks. This is
disappointing since I had lovingly decided which plugins where to be in my
target.

Perhaps there should be a resync button, or reload should be more discrete or
PDE should just auto resync when it sees something that is out of sync.

strangely enough, in i0126 I am getting out of sync Xs on plugins that are in
the workspace. It so unclear a) what exactly is out of sync, b) how I would
get them in sync and c) what badness is happening (i.e., why I should care
since things seem to be working ok)

I found that I managed to get into this state after moving my eclipse install
directory... is there anything I can do to fix it or am I going to have to blow
away my workspace?

I deleted my PDE plugin preference store and everything is once again cool.

Kim, while you have the same symptom, you may have a different issue..

What exact steps did you do when "I managed to get into this state after
moving my eclipse install directory"?

I received my new Powerbook today. The first thing I did was install eclipse.
After I had it installed and my workspace set up as I like it, I decided that I
didn't want the eclipse folder sitting on my desktop. I preferred to have it in
my Application folder. I shut down eclipse and moved my eclipse folder to my
Application folder. Upon starting eclipse again my workbench was in the
described state - all my target platform plugins were out of sync.

ahh, I understand. I'll open a separate a bug report for this.
Congratulations on the new purchase, by the way :-)

In the new target platform story, there is a reload button on the preference page. That button will check is the target platform has any errors or is out of synch with the file system. If it is found to be out of synch, the user is informed and pressing the OK button on the preference page will fix things.
