Description Graham Leggett CLA 2004-07-13 13:31:59 EDT
After installing a brand new copy of eclipse v3.0, I attempt to share a project
that was previously shared using eclipse v3.0M9.

I make sure "validate the connection" is not checked.

I choose the project and select "synchronise with repository". At this point, a
popup window appears saying "Operation in progress..." and the "details" button
is greyed out.

At this point the "operation in progress..." message is entirely meaningless. An
operation is obviously in progress, the hourglass mouse cursor tells me so. The
message does not tell me _which_ operation is in progress, so I am left with no
information describing what eclipse is trying to do, and therefore no means to
debug the underlying problem without lots of groping around in the dark.

The fix: remove this message entirely, or replace it with a meaningful
indication of what eclipse is doing.

Pressing "cancel" on the message dialog has the effect of greying out the cancel
button. The "operation in progress" is not cancelled. Attempts at clicking on
"close window" are ignored. Eclipse has now hung and needs to be killed.

This bug is probably related to bug 69946.

The task at hand is a CVS operation - in the past, I would have been presented
with a dialog box asking me for my login password to the CVS repository. I
strongly suspect the underlying problem is caused by the CVS section waiting for
a password from a dialog box that is never shown on the screen. v3.0M9 shows an
IOException explaining that a timeout has occurred. v3.0 final does not time out
at all, and has to be killed, losing all unsaved changes.

The "Operation in progress..." message is what is initially shown by the
dialog. It does get changed to something meaningful but this happens at some
point after the deadlock you are experiencing. We shpuld set the message as
soon as possible.

I can't reproduce it. Works for me on 3.4M1. Graham could you check it on newer version of Eclipse?
