Description Tim deBoer CLA 2004-07-11 14:33:11 EDT
When a Text widget is created using the FormToolkit and paintBordersFor() is
used to give the flat look, there are two issues with the Text widget's
display:

1) If the widget is disabled, there is absolutely no UI for the widget - it's
invisible if there is no text in it. The user can't see that there is a text
field at all. The border should still be painted, but should be grayed out or
using another representation to show that the field is disabled.

2) When the disabled state of the widget changes, the border is not redrawn.
This means that the field can still be invisible when the field is enabled, or
can be disabled and still look enabled. The first case can be especially
confusing to users since they can't tell that there's a field that needs to be
filled in, and even if they know it's there they have to click around blindly
in the UI until they find the location of the field.

Both of these issues are confusing to the user and detract from the usability
of the FormToolkit.

Although this bug is minor, it is very confusing to users and we've had
several complaints about this. We'd really appreciate it if this can be fixed
for v3.01. Even fixing #1 would be a large improvement, and I'd be glad to
post a code fix for that if you're busy.
