Description Randy Hudson CLA 2004-06-08 12:00:35 EDT
The export icon has an arrow point towards the icon of the workbench window.
The import icon has an arrow pointed away from the application window.

It's backwards. Why is export going in and import going out?

I had the same though briefly. Try importing a zip file for example. When
you get to the second page of the wizard you see the big vice (sort of
squashing the file) and the arrow pointing away from it.. this means that the
file is being taken from the zip file into the workbench. So the point is
that the image represents the other target not the workbench. Otherwise every
import wizard would use the same picture (which somehow represented the
workbench) and the arrow pointing to the workbench.

The icon clearly has a titlebar and menubar, which suggests that it is the
workbench window. If you want it to be a generic file type icon, make it look
like a document, not a window. For example, the icon used for unknown types in
the navigator view.

ah, I see which you are talking about. Actually I just noticed that the
import/export on the file menu are not the same as the ones on the popup (the
main menu ones are new, the pop-up (in package explorer) are the old ones)

this bug is a dup of bug 56839, but due to the different icons in the Package
Explorer, I am going to rename and move TO JDT so they can investigate this
and I will carry on investigating bug 56839

Dirk, I remember what happened... for 2.1 I wanted to have images for the
import export actions in the context menu, so we have assigned them to the
import/export actions in the action group.

In the latest the workbench is assigning icons to the these actions, so we no
longer need the workaround. Removed the workaround and we now have consistent
icons.

released the change.
