It is not currently posible for an action set action to have both an icon and
text in a toolbar item.  This should be supported.

This can only be done programmatically, currently.  See
ActionContributionItem.MODE_FORCE_TEXT.

There are currently no plans to work on this feature

yet for graphic adverse folks that would be nice to have that and let user select terxt, image or text+image for their toolbar buttons.

Oh, this bug is wontfixed? Please reconsider this feature. Just look at popular apps like Thunderbird and Firefox, they allow to choose between text, icon, icon & text and I think its really helpful. Keep in mind the non-enterprise, non-development apps (blue sky!) ;)

So we won't fix this, especially not in 3.3 where it requires API.

But if someone would like to contribute a patch for all of the extension points and matching code, we'll consider it for 3.4.

Action extensions are deprecated in favor of org.eclipse.ui.commands/org.eclipse.ui.menus. No work will be planned about actions.
