Description Ian Brown CLA 2004-03-30 04:47:33 EST
In build M8, I have been building a workspace for a multi-project development.
This is basically a recreation of what I've done with previous milestone
builds, but I always start afresh with an empty workspace for a new release.

Anyway, I now have all of my projects checked out from CVS, and am currently
going round resolving the inter-dependencies.

Whilst doing this, the Progress view shows the build activities etc. going on.

For each rebuild, however, a "WAITING: Running Operation" task is left in the
Progress view (1 per build that takes place), and eventually Eclipse stops
doing rebuilds. During the test I am running at the moment, this occurs after
43 items are in the Progress view list - although I have also seen it happen
when there are as few at 10 entries in the list.

This is really killing the usability of M8 as once these items are in the
list, they never disappear and even right-click/Cancel does not remove them.

I (personally) would class this as a very high priority issue and would hope
that it can be resolved in an integration build soon!

My colleagues have reported the failure to rebuild in other situations, too,
so it might not be related to the same problem - or the problem may be down to
the building itself not completing all tasks...

My continuing observation of this is that for every visit I make to a
project's properties when I change a build dependency (add/remove a dependent
project or external library), then I get one of these Progress view items left
lying around.

After a certain number of these has built up, Eclipse will perform no further
builds - although this may be a seperate issue (see issue 57656)

Unless you are still seeing this in the 3.0 final release, I will assume this is
a duplicate of bug 57656.
