When is this going to move away from being work in progress. Also, it is really
unclear how the enablement and the polling checkbox are related? It currently
seems to the user that polling is used on all platforms. Which is not always the
case. 

It has to be more obvious when polling vs os specific refresh mechanisms are used. 

Another point, should auto-refresh be enabled by default on Windows? That would
seem like the most obvious choice.
