We need to secure the trademark for the project name.

Name(s): Jakarta EE NoSQL
Project proposal: https://projects.eclipse.org/proposals/jakarta-ee-nosql

Project lead(s), if the name of your project has been used by you or your company, and/or if there are any domain names associated with this project that must be transfered to the Eclipse Foundation, please complete the Trademark and Domain Name Transfer Agreement [1] and send a scanned copy to trademarks@eclipse-foundation.org.

EMO IP Team, please initiate a trademark search/transfer.

The name Jakarta belongs to Eclipse Foundation.
https://jakarta.ee/
Thereby, I don't have any trademark to transfer.
Comment 2 Otavio Santana CLA 2018-10-18 15:25:32 EDT
Can I define it either as close or solved?
Comment 3 Wayne Beaton CLA 2018-10-18 19:18:15 EDT
This is our first specification project. We'll use this to sort out how or if the process we follow for trademarks needs to change.

AFAIK, the name "Jakarta EE NoSQL" is not already used, so a name transfer is not required. We do, however, still require sign off by the EMO Trademarks team.
Comment 4 Sharon Macdonald CLA 2018-10-23 08:03:20 EDT
The Eclipse Foundation values its Intellectual Property and respects the rights of other Intellectual Property holders. For this reason, a trademark search is performed prior to accepting any new project name. This safeguard is in place to protect all parties.

Unfortunately, our search results indicate a high risk of trademark infringement, or other issue associated with using the proposed project name. As a result, we ask that you provide up to three new project names, in order of preference, and we will initiate a new search.

Thank you

Sharon

* Eclipse JNoSQL, this Eclipse already holds the trademark. Once we never Define what means the 'J' that works with Jakarta :), thereby JNoSQL = Jakarta NoSQL Database
* Eclipse Jakarta JNoSQL
* Eclipse JNDBC - Jakarta NoSQL Database Connectivity
Comment 6 Wayne Beaton CLA 2018-11-20 10:12:54 EST
I spoke with Mike and we decided that we're going to press ahead with "Jakarta EE NoSQL" with an understanding that this name can never be registered as a trademark.
