Project lead(s), if the name of your project has been used by you or your company, and/or if there are any domain names associated with this project that must be transfered to the Eclipse Foundation, please complete the Trademark and Domain Name Transfer Agreement [1] and send a scanned copy to trademarks@eclipse-foundation.org.

EMO IP Team, please initiate a trademark search/transfer.

The Eclipse Foundation values its Intellectual Property and respects the rights of other Intellectual Property holders. For this reason, a trademark search is performed prior to accepting any new project name. This safeguard is in place to protect all parties.

Unfortunately, our search results indicate a high risk of trademark infringement associated with using the proposed project name. 

 To be more specific there are two issues associated with the proposed name. The first is that it contains the name of another Trademark (linux) and the second issue is that the name would be considered merely descriptive in the eyes of the United States Trademark office if we decided to submit an application for registration.

As a result, we ask that you provide up to three new project names, in order of preference, and we will initiate a new search.

Here are some suggestions, in order of preference:

1.) Eclipse Software Package Tools - org.eclipse.spt
2.) Eclipse LPT - org.eclipse.lpt - It could still be named Linux Package Tools, but the official name would simply be LPT.
3.) Eclipse Packager - org.eclipse.packager

Sharon, it looks like my hope that this project join with the existing Eclipse Linux Tools project isn't going to work out.

We have completed our trademark search. The trademark name Eclipse Packager is now approved.
