Description

Adding Wayne via cc. -M. Raster Processing Engine was terminated and archived at the request of the PMC. All committers should have been retired as part of that process. Connect with the PMC; if they agree to re-enabling the project via simple vote (three +1s and no -1s), then have them contact emo@eclipse.org to make that request. Thanks, Wayne. I sent off the email. Who on the PMC requested that the project be terminated? Hi Rob, This went through the PMC and SC late last year. That said, I can assure you RPE is very much alive and kicking! The project was archived while Jody, Marc and Eddie revisited the scope and funding of the project by taking it back to the proposal stage. RPE was an empty repo other than some documentation. The plan is to relaunch the project when you all reached the point of of adding code to the repo. Here is a link to the current planning document written by Jody. https://docs.google.com/document/d/1nJIN3E4Jc3f-ZwJDN-Oj3Ebp5A0rnDptCehG9LaHCyk/edit?ts=5a754387#heading=h.p31zi9uaehat Best, Thea Thanks for the explanation, Thea. I remember the hubub around trying to shut down uDig, and I didn't notice that this project was included in that selection of projects on the alter. I'm still confused about why this was initiated, and what the process of archiving projects/how and who makes the decision for for kicking off the process. Is there some documentation around that that could help me understand that process? Cheers, Rob Thanks for the explanation, Thea. Is there some documentation around that that could help me understand that process? Cheers, Rob Hey Rob, The process was started late in 2016 as we worked our way through the backlog of projects. During that process we encountered a few projects that, for a variety of reasons, had either stalled or had issues that were preventing the project from moving forward. IN RPE's case, I initiated the termination review so the project scope could be refined and a initial contribution could be made. The notification happened via the different LocationTech lists, on the PMC calls and in discussions with Jody/Eddie/Marc. Generally speaking it was a happy move as it allowed RPE to essentially restart the process with a clear mandate, more secure corp support and following all of our internal processes. Does that help? Thea Yep, thank you Thea. (In reply to Thea Aldrich from comment #7) > IN RPE's case, I initiated the > termination review so the project scope could be refined and a initial > contribution could be made. Does the scope of the project (as captured here) need to be changed? https://projects.eclipse.org/projects/locationtech.rasterprocessingengine/governance No, the scope is the same as before. (In reply to Rob Emanuele from comment #10) > No, the scope is the same as before. Ok. Since the project was only just recently terminated, I'm going to try and just undo that termination (strictly speaking, the process requires that we treat this like a new proposal, which seems like a lot of work). I'm pretty sure that unarchiving the project should be relatively easy, since I dont that everything is basically still in place (the archive that webmaster built seems to only contain a copy of the Git repository). I will have to restart the committer registration (paperwork) process, but since everybody is already a committer, this should just take the time required by the records team to push it along. Webmaster, I'm pretty sure that we just need to: * Remove the "archived" flag from the GitHub repository; * Mark the project as active in the database; and * Start the committer registration process. Webmaster, please confirm. Have I missed anything? For completness, we should also remove the archive [1]. [1] https://www.eclipse.org/projects/archives.php Rob, which of the original committers should we reinstate? (In reply to Wayne Beaton from comment #11) > > * Remove the "archived" flag from the GitHub repository; > * Mark the project as active in the database; and > * Start the committer registration process. > > Webmaster, please confirm. Have I missed anything? I don't think so. The archived notes have been removed and I've marked the project as incubating in the database. -M> (In reply to Eclipse Webmaster from comment #13) > The archived notes have been removed and I've marked the project as > incubating in the database. I've re-enabled Jody's Project Lead role and have started the process to re-add him as a committer. This is a very rare corner case, so we may have missed something. Please be patient. This activity appears complete? (In reply to Jody Garnett from comment #15) > This activity appears complete? Agreed. |
