Description Kasandra Darwin CLA 2017-10-23 09:45:07 EDT
The Thingweb project wishes to release under MIT License.

In order to implement this non-standard licensing scheme, we will need to get approval from the Eclipse Board of Directors.

Johannes and Matthias, please provide us with two paragraphs: in the first paragraph, provide an executive summary of the project; and in the second paragraph, describe why the project needs to be licensed in this manner. You can provide the text in a comment on this bug.

Please avoid providing technical detail; a two or three sentence executive summary will suffice for each of these paragraphs.

I would like to clarify that we wish to release Thingweb under the W3C License. It is an oficial deliverable of the W3C WoT Working Group and needs this explicit license.

After talking with Mike, we are considering dual-licensing under W3C + EPL 2.0 to make adoption in other Eclipse projects easier.
Comment 2 Matthias Kovatsch CLA 2017-10-23 10:49:21 EDT
Maybe another comment: The form for project proposals does not allow to select "Other license" under Licenses, although the text says other licenses should be specified under "Legal Issues" -- which I did.

Matthias, have you decided whether W3C + EPL 2.0 will be okay for you?

Thanks.

Hi Matthias,

Please assemble a short slide deck that describes why the project team chose dual-licensing under W3C-20150513 OR EPL 2.0.

This is the information required in order to seek board approval. The slides will be presented to the Board of Directors to motivate the license requirement and gain board approval.

When ready, please attach the slide deck to this bug for review-- no later than December 1st.

Hi Matthias,

Just a reminder that we need a short slide deck (per my comment above) by this Friday (Dec 1) in order to guarantee that it will be added to the agenda for the December board meeting. Otherwise we risk having to wait until January.

Thanks,

Kasandra

Dear Kasandra

I just added the slide deck.
In the haste, I was not as precise as "W3C-20150513 OR EPL 2.0", but only "W3C and EPL" -- I hope this is okay...

Kind regards,
Matthias

Thank you Matthias!

Dual licensing (W3C and EPL) has been approved. I will mark this but as resolved.
