Description Hal Perkins CLA 2004-02-19 11:23:24 EST
When Eclipse is launched on OS X, it is sluggish to start up and, even after the main window is
displayed and the UI starts responding to events, one of the Eclipse icons in the dock continues
bouncing for the better part of a minute or more. The continued bouncing leads some users to think
that it is still launching and not ready for quite a long time compared to other aplications. It
should launch quicker, or, at the very least, the icons should stop bouncing once it is ready for use.

Configuration: OS X 10.3.2, Java 1.4.2 final, Eclipse 3.0M7 (first observed on M6; no significant change
in M7); observed on both a 1GHz PowerBook G4 and a dual 2GHz G5.

Anyone know what causes a "bouncing icon" on Mac?

If you want to mark this as a duplicate of 42554 that's fine, but I don't buy
it as resolved (which both bugs are marked). The problem is not that there
are multiple eclipse icons in the dock, that's ok, and it's probably
unavoidable when Java opens several windows on OS X. The problem is that one
of them keeps bouncing for a long time, waiting for an OS timeout, which leads
users to think that Eclipse hasn't finished launching. That needs to be fixed.

I don't buy that you have tried the version of Eclipse where the problem has been fixed (I20040217).
The problem hasn't been fixed for M7.

My apologies. I missed the reference to the post-M7 build where this seems to be fixed.
Comment 6 John Arthorne CLA 2004-03-03 16:53:20 EST
Incorrect resolution (it's a dup)
