We have other priorities that we need to focus on now. This doesn't mean someone else from the community can't take on creating a splash screen for Photon. We are in Photon M6 now.I believe it time to start work on a new splash screen for photon. @Roxanne @Kat: are you the right contact at the Foundation to manage the design of a new splash screen or should we add someone else as cc? (In reply to Mickael Istria from comment #7) > @Roxanne @Kat: are you the right contact at the Foundation to manage the > design of a new splash screen or should we add someone else as cc? Removing Kat and Ian from the thread; they no longer work for the Eclipse Foundation. Adding @Stephanie & Mike who will have a definite answer. Hi all, we can design the splash page. What is your deadline? (In reply to Stephanie Swart from comment #9) > Hi all, we can design the splash page. What is your deadline? We wold like to have this by First week of March. OK, are the requirements still the same as the ones listed on the wiki? https://wiki.eclipse.org/Platform-releng/Updating_Branding#Splash_screen (In reply to Roxanne Joncas from comment #11) > OK, are the requirements still the same as the ones listed on the wiki? > https://wiki.eclipse.org/Platform-releng/Updating_Branding#Splash_screen It's also worth considering whether we'd like the splashscreen to say "Eclipse IDE" and/or "Eclipse SDK", as discussed in bug 526349. I believe the best would be to have the same design, font, logo, colors, and just make 2 flavours: one saying "SDK" another saying "IDE". The Eclipse TLP deliverables would take the "SDK" one while the EPP would take the "IDE" one. What do other think about it? I normally create required bmp files from the XCF format image. What we need is splash screen in XCF format(should be able to open using GIMP). the specific requirements are mentioned in comment 0. Hi All, I've created and attached two files for the new Photon splash screen. One says "Eclipse SDK" and the other says "Eclipse IDE"; they are labeled accordingly and are both SVG. files. If we need any other format, please let me know and I can easily export and add the files to the bug. Please review and give feedback. Thank you, Stephanie The splashscreen should also include the release month/date (in an editable layer to allow us to update it for maintenance versions). Another comment (more a proposal than a requirement), I have the impression that the font for IDE and Photon seems not consistent with the one of "eclipse" and that the chosen font looks too "heavy" (as in carries more things than necessary, soo for example the "branches" on the E character). Would it be possible to use the same font as "eclipse" but with a different color such as the one use by the particles of the drawing? (In reply to Mickael Istria from comment #18 + #19) >The splashscreen should also include the release month/date (in an editable >layer to allow us to update it for maintenance versions). Once we have chosen a look, I will make all of the iterations including the release month/date. As well, I will attach an editable version for someone to make the appropriate changes. > Another comment (more a proposal than a requirement), I have the impression > that the font for IDE and Photon seems not consistent with the one of > "eclipse" and that the chosen font looks too "heavy" (as in carries more > things than necessary, soo, for example, the "branches" on the E character). > Would it be possible to use the same font as "eclipse" but with a different > color such as the one use by the particles of the drawing? I will make the suggested changes to compare to the current draft. As well, the font used in 'IDE' and 'Photon' is the same font used in the eclipse logo. They are just different font weights. I will make some changes to the font weights to see the difference. (In reply to Stephanie Swart from comment #20) > As well, > the font used in 'IDE' and 'Photon' is the same font used in the eclipse > logo. They are just different font weights. Ok, I think it's the difference between upper-case and lower-case then. Can you please try with lower-case then? (In reply to Mickael Istria from comment #21) > (In reply to Stephanie Swart from comment #20) > > As well, > > the font used in 'IDE' and 'Photon' is the same font used in the eclipse > > logo. They are just different font weights. I see too many differences between both fonts to have this impression. Can it be that I'm missing the font and that the SVG renders differently here? Can you please post some exported (bmp) versions of the splash too with the next set of proposals so I can check whether the font renders differently? Created attachment 272917 [details]

Hi Mickael, it seems the font was not rendering properly. I've attached a new version of the IDE. Hopefully, it is fixed now. As well, I've added 2 new versions of 'ide' and 'sdk' in color and lowercase. Let me know what you think. Thanks! Happy to hear positive feedback and it sounds like the lowercase 'sdk' and 'ide' will be the one we want to go with. So on that note, should we vote on which we'd rather have? Thanks! At the moment, as there is one propoal that receives much more positive feedback, I don't think a vote would be necessary. You can post a note on the `ide-dev@eclipse.org` mailing-list to mention your proposals and maybe you'll get some more feedback. Would it be possible to include the release date (June 2018) to see how this can integrate? Created attachment 272933 [details]

Photon_SplashScreen_sdkWithDate
I've integrated the date into the design. Thanks! -1 to add IDE or SDK. This is the base splash screen that also other products and RCPs can use which have nothing to do with SDK or IDE. Also, using IDE would be wrong as there is an IDE package which is not the same as the Platform/SDK. EPPs can add it if they want via bug 526349. Please remove that. Thanks. (In reply to Dani Megert from comment #36) > This is the base splash screen that also other > products and RCPs can use which have nothing to do with SDK or IDE. Are those RCPs you have in mind Eclipse.org projects? Or are you referring to the few other RCPs shipped by the Platform/SDK project? If you're talking about non-Eclipse.org RCPs, that's actually a major branding issue that other products do receive the splash screen from SDK or IDE here. Why would the SDK make all RCP have this splash the default? As the SDK has a dedicated product definition, why would the splash defined in the SDK product leak into RCPs? Would it make sense to keep the splash screen saying "sdk" for the SDK, and to have a non-qualified "Eclipse" splashscreen for other Platform RCPs deliveries? > EPPs can add it if they want via bug 526349. > Please remove that. Thanks. @Kat: remove only "sdk" if Dani wants it, but please keep the one which says "ide" as part of the same work. When we're done with splash screen, I'll track its adoption in EPP in bug 526349 but I believe at the moment, it's still easier to work on both splashscreens simultaneously. (In reply to Mickael Istria from comment #37) > Would it make sense to keep the splash screen saying "sdk" for the SDK, and > to have a non-qualified "Eclipse" splashscreen for other Platform RCPs > deliveries? Currently there's no (special) splash screen for the SDK. I could live with such an approach but it would have to say "SDK" not "ide". I would also prefer to use "SDK" instead of "sdk". (In reply to Mickael Istria from comment #37) > > @Kat: remove only "sdk" if Dani wants it, but please keep the one which says > "ide" as part of the same work. When we're done with splash screen, I'll > track its adoption in EPP in bug 526349 but I believe at the moment, it's > still easier to work on both splashscreens simultaneously. FYI, Kat no longer works at the Foundation. I will create a splash screen that neither references 'sdk' or 'ide'. However, I will keep the ones that include 'sdk' and 'ide' attached to this bug. (In reply to Stephanie Swart from comment #39) > FYI, Kat no longer works at the Foundation. Sorry Stephanie, I was actually thinking about you and got confused and typed the wrong name. Can we say that it's ok to adopt this splashscreen right now so they're in M6, or should we wait for some other steps in some process? Please let me know if that is sufficient. Thanks Thanks for the Adobe illustrator file for the splash. This is is enough for our use. Resolving this bug I'd like to derive an Eclipse IDE 2018-09 variant of this splash screen, but don't have Adobe Illustrator to do it properly. Can someone please take care of doing it?
