similarly adding http://download.eclipse.org/modeling/tmf/xtext/updates/composite/releases/ as update site and fetching metadata (try to see the content) seems to take eons

Work on https://bugs.eclipse.org/bugs/show_bug.cgi?id=461732 caught us off guard, but it's been fixed. Please see bug 461732 comment 28.
