Description Thomas Schindl CLA 2016-08-01 04:33:32 EDT
It looks like the sync is broken for https://www.eclipse.org/forums/index.php/f/259/

I can't see my replies on the newsgroup on the forum! May I ask if webmasters could implement an automatic check if things like this are happening. It is very frustrating if you try to help people adopt your project just to find out those replies are going to a nirvana.

I know it has been discussed multiple times and NO i won't switch to the forum anytime.

It looks like we have the same issue with the Sirius newsgroup/forum: at least 3 answers we posted on the newsgroup/nntp side have not appeared on the forum/web side.

The messages are:
- <nnd4bk$7v1$1@news.eclipse.org>: "Re: Obeo designer 9.0 under Win 7 is not started", posted on 2016-07-28;
- <nnn2cs$an2$1@news.eclipse.org>: "Re: Remove E4 menu item programmatically", posted on 2016-08-01;
- <nnnaae$chi$1@news.eclipse.org>: "Re: Stange behavior associated elements for edges", posted on 2016-08-01.

It seems that all 3 are visible from users which consume the newsgroup via NNTP (a minority), but not from the web forum.

When an issue like this occurs (like what happened this past weekend) and results in the sync between the newsgroup and the forum being broken, it takes a manual restart of the process in order to re-initiate the sync.

This is what I have now done: I have restarted the sync for both the e(fx)clipse and the Sirius newsgroup.

Can you both check and confirm that both are back up and re-synced?

For the Sirius forum at least, it does not seem to work:

I posted a new message on 2016-08-04 (so after your last comment), which never appeared on the web side. Part of the message header:

I had to re-post the same from the forum (visible at https://www.eclipse.org/forums/index.php/t/1079881/). I see both on the NNTP side (using Thunderbird), but only one on the web side.

Also, since yesterday the "most recent" posts visible on the Sirius forum's main page are actually old messages from 2013, apparently the first ones posted when the newsgroup was created (starting from "Welcome to eclipse.sirius"). Probably a glitch due to the forced sync?
Comment 4 Thomas Schindl CLA 2016-08-05 04:19:15 EDT
Right something very similar is happening to e(fx)clipse forum - some of the top posts are from 2013 and post to the newsgroup are still not showing up.
Comment 5 Pierre-Charles David CLA 2016-08-12 03:13:30 EDT
Any news on this? The synchronization is still not working (at least for the Sirius forum). The Sirius team itself has been careful to only use the web forum to post, and most users seem to also use the web side, but not all. Yesterday we've had a message from Ed Willink (details below) which was posted via NNTP and, unknowingly to him, was not actually visible from 95% of the readers.

Some details from the message in question:

Same for e(fx)clipse - I'm frustrated
Comment 7 Denis Roy CLA 2016-08-15 14:13:56 EDT
See bug 348464. With the deepest of apologies, we simply cannot maintain NNTP anymore.
