Description Torkild Resheim CLA 2016-05-27 03:03:32 EDT
On the "Packages" download page there is this text: "You will need a Java runtime environment (JRE) to use Eclipse (Java SE 7 or greater is recommended)." I believe Mylyn is part of many of these packages and most if not all Mylyn projects now require Java 8.

Hi Torkild,

Thanks for reporting this bug. This will get tackled along with the new layout of the downloads page.

I'll keep you posted when this change is applied.

Thanks Eric,

According to Lars (https://bugs.eclipse.org/bugs/show_bug.cgi?id=493809#c70), Eclipse Platform 4.6 also requires Java 8. So changing the recommendation is valid for all packages.
Comment 3 Markus Knauer CLA 2016-06-10 05:33:09 EDT
In fact, EPP Neon packages won't even start on a JVM < 1.8.
See bug 481997 for details.
