Description Iliya Krapchatov CLA 2016-04-22 13:43:44 EDT
Ubuntu Linux 14.04, Intel i7 Quad Core at ~3GHz, Nvidia Quadro 2000M.

Simple cursor movement and/or screen scrolling is very sluggish and takes at least 11 seconds for each 100 lines on 2560x1440 external display.

Text type and/or line numberings on/off makes no difference. The speed of scrolling is worse the larger text in editor's area is. Whitespaces has no impact.

When Eclipse resides on internal display 1920x1080px cursor movement speed changes appropriately to the display resolution.

Eclipse Ganymede (3.4.2) on the same PC shows no visible lags in editor on both displays and regardless text width. Cursor movement/scrolling speed in that Eclipse version depends only on keyboard repeating rate.

The behaviour of the problem looks like as described in BUG 366471 but affect Ubuntu Linux OS.

Which Eclipse version do you use? Is it really 4.5 ? If yes please try with 4.7 and tell us whether the issue remains.

No response from the reporter in awhile. There have been caret performance fixes in the meantime so it's possible this ticket has been resolved. Please reopen this bug if the issue still occurs on 4.8 with GTK3.22.
