Currently the initial focus is on the field which allows selection of the directory to search for repositories. Why would it be better to put the initial focus on the search result ?

IMHO changing the directory is not so common, as changing the filter.

That's true if you store all/most repositories under a common folder.

I don't, but that's probably due to the fact that I do a lot of testing with git repositories and I keep the test repositories in a different place than the productive ones.

I think it's ok to change the default focus to the search box since probably many users follow EGit's default which puts repositories under ~/git/.
