When using a "Local" connection with the remote terminal, clicking on the "Disconnect Terminal Connection" button causes the UI to freeze.

This sounds very similar to bug 465674 and is most likely Mac specific. You'll need to ensure that the process of your remote local shell gets killed before you try closing the streams.

You may want to reopen this. Local Terminal issue that Greg Watson reported is back with Neon.3
