Description Eike Stepper CLA 2015-04-18 13:01:21 EDT
This is an umbrella bug for problems we can't reproduce in a Mac virtual box. Please help us if you own a Mac!

Installer Error Message

Most installs of OS X have this security preference set. The error is self-explanatory and it is likely a larger number of new users to Eclipse may encounter this message. It is resolved by going into the System Preferences > Security & Privacy > General Tab and clicking the button 'Open Anyway' next to the message "Eclipse Installer" was blocked from opening because it is not from an identified developer.

Crash Log

The installer crashes when clicking the button / link to launch the download file.

Downloaded File Error

Downloaded the basic Eclipse using the installer and it is not a functional download. On the Mac I would expect a directory containing eclipse - unless this has changed. Looking at the package contents of the file that is downloaded there appears to be a non-functionl eclipse executable.

Hi Tim, I should have been more exact when I wrote "this is an umbrella bug". We definitely need separate bugzillas for distinct problems. This umbrella bug depends on all those separate bugzillas. It's meant to be a grouping container, especially useful with Mylyn, where an umbrella bug induces a visual subtree and provides a convenient "New -> Subtask" menu item.

Eike, I am very sorry that I didn't understand this. I will move these to discrete bugs and let you clean up the mess as necessary.

It appears that all issues other than https://bugs.eclipse.org/bugs/show_bug.cgi?id=521439 are fixed and even that one I cannot reproduce and appears to be a minor annoyance rather than a serious problem.
