In the context of this simple installer to install IDE packages, the "select catalogs" does not seem to be necessary.

At this moment you seem right because there's just a single product catalog available. That might change in the near future and then the button will be needed. Are you suggesting to make it appear conditionally only when there's more than one catalog available?

  Yes this would be a good solution.

With bug 460825 I've added a guard that prevents the catalog selection button to show up if it's not needed.
