Description Martin Oberhuber CLA 2014-11-29 01:50:31 EST
+++ This bug was initially created as a clone of Bug #362420 +++

As a product builder, I want to be able and have the Quick Access not shown by default in my product, such that more screen space is available for the toolbar. It turns out that the size of the quick access is not fully under control on all host platforms, and the value of the quick access field in the toolbar is questionable (and has been questioned in the past).

With bug 362420 and bug 426418 it was made possible for end users to hide the quick access bar, see also the Eclipse New & Noteworthy:
https://www.eclipse.org/eclipse/news/4.4/eclipse-news-part1.php

But this functionality is extremely hard to find, and even if found it's extremely hard to apply. The screen space where you can successfully right-click > hide is only very few pixels wide, and if clicking slightly off you see only "Restore Toolbar Items" but not the sought-after "Hide Quickaccess". Or you accidentally hide the Perspective Switcher.

https://bugs.eclipse.org/bugs/show_bug.cgi?id=362420#c100 has already requested making it possible to hide the quick access bar in plugin_customization.ini and I want to reinforce this request. I would even say that marking bug 362420 as duplicate of bug 431868 was not appropriate, because the original request was making the quickaccess-off a product default (or configurable as a preference).

Please complete the original story and make this possible.

You can write a model add-on which set the correeponding tag on the tool control.

Does this solve your need?

Hi Lars, it probably would help if I had the slightest idea how to do that :)

If one of the experts could contribute the model add-on for turning off the quickaccess toolbar here, it might serve as a good example for further exploring model add-ons ...

Valid point. :-) I try to implement this for M5.

As we don't have quick access bar anymore. I'll close this one as fixed.
