ALt+click in Linux doesn't work (#116948) -- but although a) the issue is known since 2055 and b) it is common sense to make hotkeys/shortcuts/whatever you call it configurable, there'as apparently no way to re-configure this unusable key combination. it does not appear in Keys, nor is there any option in the Mylyn configuration

no idea what version it is, Help -> About Eclipse -> Mylyn shows at least 5 different versions without any information which one should be selected here.

Good luck convincing Steve Northover if you want to use the Win key (Meta on Linux):

55236: Please support SWT.MOD4 on platforms other than the Mac
https://bugs.eclipse.org/bugs/show_bug.cgi?id=55236

As an alternative, a on-hover affordance "[+]" has been implemented:

175655: [api][context] provide an on-hover affordance to supplement Alt+click navigation
https://bugs.eclipse.org/bugs/show_bug.cgi?id=175655

If you cannot use Alt, reconfigure Linux to use the Meta key in place of the Alt key to free it for Eclipse as I did.
Look here:

Or use the [+] sign besides the filter to expand. See also

http://wiki.eclipse.org/index.php/Mylyn_User_Guide#Alt.2BClick_Navigation_.2F_Show_Filtered_Children

What modifier key do you want to configure instead -- CTRL-Click or SHIFT-Click?

i am not looking for a work-around, but for a fix to a bug.

[+] is for me basically useless since _very_ unreliable:
#442052

> What modifier key do you want to configure instead -- CTRL-Click or
> SHIFT-Click?

doesn't matter -- what I want is the shortcut to be configurable. hard-coded shortcuts make no sense whatsoever.

this is NOT a duplicate and this is NOT about not working in Linux!

please, don't jump to conclusions just because someone referred to that bug!
(and that bug is prime example on how to do it wrong, but that's another issue.)

this bug is entirely about the fact the this shortcut is hard coded.
shortcuts are items which by necessity have to be configurable. period.

in the bug you wrongly assumed to be duplicate there's not one viable reason why this shouldn't be configurable -- and honestly, it's impossible that there will ever be one.

it's not your decision what shortcut makes sense or not -- just add it to the Keys section of the preferences and leave it to users.

apparently the Mylyn project has grave issue to grasp the idea of user's freedom of choice (and hence of making things configurable) -- after all, we're not talking about a primitive text editor or something, but a complex system for users who are supposed to be able to think for themselves.

For technical reasons, this can't be configured through the keys preference page. That page is only for keyboard shortcuts, not keyboard+mouse combinations.

For the reason Miles mentioned on the other bug, we won't add support for changing the modifier key unless someone can suggest an alternative modifier key that users could configure.
