Description Alexander Nyßen CLA 2014-06-11 11:56:39 EDT
I noticed that http://www.eclipse.org/egit/ and http://www.eclipse.org/jgit/ both place an "About This Project" link as the first entry on their content column. Within GEF we used to have our own menu to point to http://projects.eclipse.org/projects/tools.gef. As the dash contains information of relevance for all users there should probably be a standardized way to access it on a project page. Or am I missing something and its already there?

I believe the way you are doing it right now is the recommended way:

$Nav->addNavSeparator("About", "http://www.eclipse.org/projects/project_summary.php?projectid=tools.gef", "_self", 3);

Adding this menu item automatically would be tricky because we need to know the project id.

We could probably figure it out.

If the project specifies the "Web site" link in the metadata, we could match the request URL against it. Worth exploring IMHO.

I agree this is worth exploring. We will also need to check if the project already submitted an about link to avoid duplicates.

This bug hasn't had any activity in quite some time. Maybe the problem got resolved, was a duplicate of something else, or became less pressing for some reason - or maybe it's still relevant but just hasn't been looked at yet.

If you have further information on the current state of the bug, please add it. The information can be, for example, that the problem still occurs, that you still want the feature, that more information is needed, or that the bug is (for whatever reason) no longer relevant.

I don't think this is something that the Solstice theme should do.

However, I think we should include this link somewhere on the project page via projects.eclipse.org.

I did not want to close this bug just yet. Sorry for the noise but I am re-opening this bug.
