I'll draft the content.

Where do we put it?

/downloads/java8
eclip.se/java8

Can we add a banner to the top of the /downloads page that says something to the effect of "Want to install Java 8 support. Find out how..."
Comment 1 Wayne Beaton CLA 2014-03-26 16:53:11 EDT
I'll use the content from my recent blog post as a starting point:

http://waynebeaton.wordpress.com/2014/03/26/add-java-8-support-to-eclipse-kepler/

I'm cranking this up to a P1 since we need to move quickly to catch up with community interest and demand.

I'm moving forward with /downloads/java8

Sounds good. We should also add/include downloads or repos from other projects that have an update for Java 8 (e.g. WTP). David is collecting those via bug 431427. Best would be to create a composite repository with all those.
Comment 4 Wayne Beaton CLA 2014-04-01 17:03:12 EDT
I've created http://eclipse.org/downloads/java8/

The page describes how to use the Eclipse Marketplace Client (MPC) to install Java 8 features. Specifically, I recommend that the user open MPC and search for "java 8 kepler". The search results put the JDT and JST patches at the top. I will monitor the search results periodically to see if we need to optimize the search criteria.

We've created two Marketplace entries:

http://marketplace.eclipse.org/content/java-8-support-eclipse-kepler-sr2
http://marketplace.eclipse.org/content/java-8-facet-web-tools-eclipse-kepler-sr2

These entries are both live.

I'm all for a composite repository. Who is capable of building and maintaining it?

Regarding that page....

I would suggest that you add a section which explicitly spell out the prerequisites. E.g.:

PREREQUISITES:

In order to install the Java(tm) support you will need to have previously installed the following:

1. The Java(tm) 8 runtime [[with link]]
2. One of the Eclipse Kepler SR2 packages [[with link]]

Done.

Probably David, but I know he is very busy.

I think we're done here.
