Currently the required markup for the Side Menu (aka Navigation Menu) has to be inserted into every page's HTML code by hand. It would be better if it was part of banner.html, or just done dynamically by globalCommands so that every page didn't have to be modified.

Then bugs such as bug 428048 would not happen.
