Description David E. Narvaez CLA 2014-02-15 18:54:59 EST
When I go to

Help -> About Eclipse SDK

then I click on Installation Details, I go to the Configuration tab, and I click the View Error Log at the bottom, nothing happens, but the console displays

wine: cannot find '/home/david/eclipse/file:/home/david/Documents/RIT/Thesis/Ramsey/.metadata/.plugins/org.eclipse.ui.workbench/log'

every time I click the button.

Does the log file really exist? Do you run eclipse using wine? What is your Linux distribution and version?

The error log is at /home/david/Documents/RIT/Thesis/Ramsey/.metadata/.log, I do not use wine to run Eclipse and my Linux distro is Sabayon.

The same error log also exists at /home/david/Documents/RIT/Thesis/Ramsey/.metadata/.plugins/org.eclipse.ui.workbench/log which is part of the location in the error message.

Are you running wine on your system? What's the configuration? Please attach the content of your Configuration tab to the bug.

It looks like your system is including your $HOME directory at the beginning of the path. it should just be file:/home/david/Documents/RIT/Thesis/Ramsey/.metadata/.plugins/org.eclipse.ui.workbench/log

I can't reproduce it on my linux system, it doesn't prepend anything to the URL

I had Wine installed (not using it to run Eclipse, or anything for that matter). I removed Wine and it fixed the problem.

It was including my CWD.

Any idea why wine was prepending stuff to your CWD?

I think it has to do with the default application associated to the file: protocol. For instance, right now it works, but the log shows up in Chromium, while I would like to see it in my default text editor. I haven't been able to find where is that association made. If I try

xdg-open file:/home/david/Documents/RIT/Thesis/Ramsey/.metadata/.plugins/org.eclipse.ui.workbench/log

it opens my text editor.
