I just noticed that clicking on a jpeg or gif file will cause the editor to open on the bits of the image instead of opening the image in a new window.

If you go to other pages, e.g., search page.
And use CTRL+SHIFT+F to open the find file dialog and search for *.png.
You end up with an URL like "search.html#thePngFileURI".
