What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. Maven -> Update Project triggers build and a popup sais "NullPointerException", but there is no StackTrace.

There is no Stack Trace available, thus it is difficult to track down this issue.

The environment got broken after pulling updates. When eclipse tried to build, the NPE occurred.
When trying Maven -> update project, a NPE occurred again.

But I think that it could have something to do with a similar issue, causing NPEs on Project import:

This could have the same cause like Bug 408931 which has a StackTrace for the NullPointerException.

Can you please provide a sample maven project reproducing the error? Hard to point fingers with so little informations.

What I wanted to say is, that this is probably a duplicate of bug 371618.

Hopefully am I right and it won't appear again, when that bug is fixed.
