We've made the following changes to Eclipse Live today: - "Eclipse Account" authentication is now disabled - Added a notice message to all the pages of Eclipse Live I am very disappointed from your decision to use only one video hosting provider. Do you know that YouTube is not available in China, so you disregarding the second largest country by Eclipse usage. See marketplace.eclipse.org/metrics/successful_installs/last30days_bycountry (In reply to comment #2) > I am very disappointed from your decision to use only one video hosting > provider. What do you recommend? Searching for video hosting companies in China, that could distribute Eclipse Live content. I could help a little with searching, but I need too know some information. What is average size per month, expected view rates. I any case, there must access to video for some registered users/software, so that hosting on platforms other than Google would not run into organizational difficulties. Eclipse Live aggregated content it never actually hosted videos so I don't think this will have a huge change for Chinese users. @Ian Skerrett But now it will. This is what this all issue about. (In reply to comment #5) > Eclipse Live aggregated content it never actually hosted videos so I don't > think this will have a huge change for Chinese users. @Ian Skerrett But now it will. This is what this all issue about. What about the existing material on Eclipse Live? From the announcement on http://live.eclipse.org/ it's not clear to me how to access the existing stuff in the future .. Thanks (In reply to comment #7) > (In reply to comment #5) > > Eclipse Live aggregated content it never actually hosted videos so I don't > > think this will have a huge change for Chinese users. > @Ian Skerrett > But now it will. This is what this all issue about. How will it impact Chinese users? If they were browsing Eclipse Live and found a video they wanted to watch, the chances were high that video was hosted on YouTube so they would have been stopped from watching. (In reply to comment #8) > What about the existing material on Eclipse Live? Again, most of the content is hosted in other places so we won't be losing it but it just won't be aggregated. Update: We've decided to terminate live. Denis, could you please setup a wildcard redirect of live.eclipse.org to our youtube channel https://www.youtube.com/EclipseFdn We will keep all the files for live on the server for 6 months. After 6 months, we will completely remove it from our servers and add it to our archives. thanks (In reply to Christopher Guindon from comment #11) > Update: > > We've decided to terminate live. > > Denis, could you please setup a wildcard redirect of live.eclipse.org to our > youtube channel https://www.youtube.com/EclipseFdn It's looks like https://www.youtube.com/EclipseFdn doesn't work all the time. We should use instead: https://www.youtube.com/user/EclipseFdn Sorry.

I've asked Matt to set up the redirect. I think it's Puppet controlled now.
We closed down Eclipse Live 4 months ago. Is it time for us to archive the files/database and remove it from our web servers? (In reply to Christopher Guindon from comment #14) > We closed down Eclipse Live 4 months ago. > > Is it time for us to archive the files/database and remove it from our web > servers? +1 for archiving Eclipse Live Site was archived to /home/data/httpd, DB to /home/data common and the DB credentials were pulled. We're done. |
