I was updating the repository page doc and got to the part where you'll get a "branch already exists" warning if you try to check out a remote branch and you already have a local branch.

The error is not surfaced to the user anymore.  It's in the console.

Szymon, could you investigate?  I don't know if this is just one error that happens to be swallowed or if we have a more pervasive issue.  I'm assuming this is a 1.0 regression (though we can't be certain that the someone checked this case each time we spun the doc).  It must have worked when the doc was first written.
