It would be good to have a Preference Page (Window->Preferences) contribution so that a user may specify which provider for a given profiling type they would like to have as the default. This default would be used during launches from the Profile As shortcut menu.

Bug 383680 proposes the creation of a default attribute so that a provider can specify whether it should be the default. The Preference page could use those choices as initial defaults and let the user modify that as well. Also note that a UI plugin's activator has access to the preference store.
