Description Matt Heitz CLA 2012-06-27 10:51:13 EDT
The change made for Bug 376732 results in a fantastic improvement when I'm downloading a file with my browser. Is there a way to get the same bandwidth when I'm installing something from an update site? (Help > Install New Software, etc.)
Comment 1 Denis Roy CLA 2012-06-27 11:00:21 EDT
Eclipse would have to authenticate itself to the Eclipse.org site login...

Other potential solutions include:

- serving p2 metadata from mirrors (but that usually leads to bugs like bug 329923)
- getting a few thousand new Friends of Eclipse so we can buy a ton of bandwidth

This bug hasn't had any activity in quite some time. Maybe the problem got resolved, was a duplicate of something else, or became less pressing for some reason - or maybe it's still relevant but just hasn't been looked at yet.

If you have further information on the current state of the bug, please add it. The information can be, for example, that the problem still occurs, that you still want the feature, that more information is needed, or that the bug is (for whatever reason) no longer relevant.

We've decided against this.
