Using Internet Explorer 9

1. Go to the login page.
2. The field names are not visible.

This is caused by my overly clever fix for bug 382107, which relied on HTML5 placeholders. IE9 does not support them, which makes the page very hard to use.

The new-account form is especially bad: it has 3 fields and none of them are named.

Placeholders are emulated using a shim:
